Course context: In today’s digital age, the allure of screens has become almost irresistible. From the bright notifications on our phones to the immersive experiences of gaming and social media, screens captivate our attention and keep us engaged for hours on end. This constant connectivity can foster addictive behaviors, often leaving us feeling drained and disconnected from our physical surroundings. The dopamine spikes we experience from likes, shares, and updates create a loop that is hard to break, making it easy to lose track of time and our personal well-being.

However, through coaching, individuals can develop a heightened self-awareness that enables them to recognize these patterns. By understanding the triggers that lead to excessive screen time, one can begin to regain the ability to choose whether to screen or not to screen. Coaches provide strategies to establish healthier boundaries with technology, encouraging practices that promote mindfulness and real-world connections. Over time, this approach can transform our relationship with screens, allowing us to reclaim our time and energy for more fulfilling pursuits.

Length of course: This coaching is a course of four online sessions with Rob, each an hour long. They can be spaced weekly or fortnightly.

What to expect: In the initial session we will have a conversation about your situation, and I'll start to develop an idea of the kind of activities that match your personality. In the next couple of sessions we'll look deeper at what breaking free from screen addiction is - this will involve some information sharing, as well as a series of activities designed to connect you with your sense of agency. In the final session I'll help you to put together a plan to send you on your way towards a more fulfilling life.

Coaching encompasses the emotional, neurological, physiological and spiritual dimensions of our being. Whilst there have been proven to be many benefits to this approach, it is important to understand and consider that with any exploration of these dimensions and with any attempt at changing your situation, you may experience discomfort, disorientation, disillusionment and overwhelm, amongst other possibilities (please research the risks so that you are fully informed). Coaching may be triggering for you.

Within the coaching you will be invited to have difficult conversations, and to engage in exercises that may be challenging. You do not have to engage; it’s your choice.

It is important that you accept responsibility for your choices and actions, and only explore these dimensions within your ability and to the comfort/discomfort you feel is appropriate.

If you are unable to accept this responsibility, it is important that you do not pursue coaching with me.

If you have an organic or serious mental illness, and/or a primary diagnosis of learning disability, a coaching agreement is not appropriate.

If you have had traumatic events in your past that you haven’t yet processed, coaching may not be for you at present – do consider getting the opinion of a mental health professional before deciding.
